Welcome

On behalf of the organizers, Tamas Korcsmaros and Nick Powell, it is a pleasure to invite you to this special workshop between 28-31 July 2025 in Visegrád, Hungary.

This meeting is a follow-up to the successful Interdisciplinary Signalling Workshops we ran in Visegrad in 2014, 2017 and 2023 organized with Giulio Superti-Furga, Vicky Schneider, Toby Gibson and Hava Gil-Henn.

In this interdisciplinary workshop advanced science is combined with informal summer activities to solve multi-disciplinary scientific questions, by bringing early career scientists (PhDs and postdocs) together with more established researchers in a relaxing and beautiful location.

The 2025 workshop will have special focus on inflammatory.

Invited speakers will present talks on the topics of systems medicine, disease models (including organoid-based approaches), microbiome and host-microbe analyses, network modelling, multi-omics and precision medicine.. Then, selected talks from other participants will be followed by multi-disciplinary teamwork sessions in the afternoon, followed by cultural and social activities, such as medieval team building (featuring a Knights’ Tournament) and handicraft activities in the Visegrad Castle. Poster sessions and plenty of informal opportunities will allow the participants to discuss complex and exciting questions as well as develop new collaborations. . The renaissance surroundings of the venue will match with the interdisciplinary nature of the workshop.

A grant writing seminar and a designated session on women/family in science will also contribute to set of interactive discussions.

Established and successfully trialled in 2023, this year we will organize again parallel children programs with supervision to support young families attending the conference.

Understanding the molecular mechanisms which underlie cellular processes relies on unrevealing the signaling processes, networks and pathways. Similarly, modelling approaches brought by in silico systems biology have become fundamental to complement empirical approaches. In the bloom of high-throughput technologies and the proliferating omics approaches it is possible to explore signaling processes to an unprecedented level by using suitable and effective integrative tools and analysis workflows. Though there are several yearly events on signaling research and focused clinical meetings around the globe, very few (if any) attain a truly multidisciplinary participation (from keynote speakers to early career participants) covering all relevant disciplines.

Visegrád

The aim of this workshop is to offer a cross-disciplinary platform, where the major key players in the various disciplines around signaling research are actually brought together to share experiences, challenges and discuss solution, together with the participants, including early career scientists (PhDs and postdocs) to allow innovative thinking and basis for truly integrative and cross disciplinary future collaborations. Solving many current problems requires the mutual understanding and cooperation of researchers with different backgrounds and methods applied, and this innovative type of workshop for scientists studying in the field of signaling research represents the next step to significant advances in this field.
